Advice on how to buy a monument:
Contact a Monumental Mason close to where you live and make an appointment to meet with them. It's best if you get a recommendation from a trusted source. For your own peace of mind we strongly recommend that you select one of our members.
Visit the company personally and look at photographs of the types of memorials they provide.
Select the material for the headstone. Granite is popular and comes in a variety of colors, but you may decide on a bronze plaque, marble or other approved material. Ask the Mason to show you samples of these materials.
Choose the type, size and shape of stone you desire. Remember that many cemeteries have limitations regarding headstone type and size. The monument company should review and inform you of these limitations before you order the stone.
Determine what information will appear on the stone. Most monument companies include a certain number of letters in the price of the stone, but if you want more letters, elaborate carving or pictures to appear on the headstone you must expect to pay more.
Go back to the Mason to approve the final layout before the information is carved into the stone, you will need to approve the design on paper.
Be sure to meticulously check spellings and dates even if you are completely familiar with the information you want inscribed; this is the last chance to make any changes or correct spelling mistakes. Please note that if you do find errors or wish to make changes you will need to inspect and approve an amended layout.
Time frame for completion of a monument may vary depending on the complexity of the design. Discuss this at the time of purchase.
Inspect the finished memorial at the Masons' premises to ensure that the agreed specification for the monument is met and that all the inscribed information is correct.
The Mason you have chosen will erect the memorial as per the order
